iPods are no match for Walkmen

iPods are no match for Walkmen

Just over 30 years ago, the world was introduced to something amazing.  No, not Adam Levine from Maroon 5…but what a dream!  Not Margaret Thatcher’s new seat as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.  Especially not that stupid Piña Colada Song.  I’m talking about something even more amazing, more outreaching, more incredible.  That’s right, the TPS-L2 Sony Walkman.  For a whopping $200 (remember this is 1979 and post-oil-shortage), Sony unveiled the first in what would be a revolutionary line of products.  In thirty years society has gone from a magnetic tape to a solid-state hard drive.  Analog-to-digital conversion with only thirty years of waiting! What a system!

How can we, Generation Y-ers, with lives dominated by iPods truly appreciate the wonder, the splendor, the insane bulkiness of the TPS-L2 Sony Walkman?  One 13-year-old attempts to find out.  Read his hilarious “review” of the Sony Walkman and how it holds up against this “iPod” thing.
