sharing the road has a new context

Here in Philadelphia, a mobile flashmob occurs every Tuesday evening. At 11.45pm, cyclists from all walks of life (messengers, hipsters, BMXers, curious thrill-seekers) convene at the stairs of the Art Museum, and bike three miles to Center City Soft Pretzel Co., confusingly located in South Philly. This is called the Pretzel Ride. It’s the only time I feel safe biking faster than about 7mph downtown, because it’s the only time cars are wary of bikes in Philadelphia, especially at night. That’s why I was so pleased to see this prototype rear bike light, which might actually put some distance between bikes and cars in the war of the roads:

While still in its developmental stage, it could really help save lives, and would probably look really awesome if you swerved a bunch. It may not help you look like less of a jerk, though.
