Bit of a cheap trick

If you’re reading this and you’re from 1977, you may not understand. Stereo 8 tapes aren’t cool any more (if they really ever were), and Cheap Trick aren’t either. Their latest (geddit?) effort has twelve thirteen tracks on it, so will be released in a special-edition triple set of 8-track tapes, about 4 tracks per tape, as Stereo 8s can only hold 10 minutes of audio per side. Rather aptly, the band doesn’t seem worried that this will be seen as a rip-off by their extensive fanbase at $30, but rather no-one will care. Their next live concert film is rumored to be released on Betamax.

The Latest has 13 tracks, and is also available as an mp3 download, CD and vinyl besides 8-track. So if you want The Latest from Trick, you got it. Perhaps they took a cue from Journey and decided, “Anyway you want it, that’s the way you need it, any way you want it.”

Ah, thanks for the fact check. I know it’s being released on all the regular formats, but that’s not as funny.
