There have been several reports that a Gundam robot has landed in Japan, but it is unclear as of now whether they are friend or foe. Of course, though, this mobile suit is harmless without someone behind its controls.

This art piece, rising nearly 60ft tall and weighing over 35 tons, was erected in the center of Tokyo to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first Gundam series. Gundam anime, in some form, has consistently been amongst the most popular anime in Japanese culture since its inception in 1979. While the shows have had limited exposure over here, occasional runs on Cartoon Network, and Bandai toys that were nothing like the sweet models released in the 80s and 90s, Gundam is like Japan’s Disney; eponymous and behind everything. The model of the original RX-78 suit will watch over Japan’s capital until August 31st. Why can’t we do things like this?
